Cheryl Kernot: The UK experience of Social Enterprise# Cheryl Kernot has recently returned from the UK where she was originally the Director of Learning at the School for Social Entrepreneurs in Bethnal Green, London, and then at the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurs at the Said Business School, Oxford University. Cheryl is on the Board of Directors of Foresters ANA.
Dr Ingrid Burkett: Learning from Europe and Social Firms* in Italy Dr. Ingrid Burkett is the Community Education and Innovations Coordinator for Foresters ANA Mutual Society. She has practiced, taught, researched and written about community economic development for over 15 years. Ingrid is the Oceania representative on the board of the International Association for Community Development and is recognised as one of Australia’s experts in the fields of community and micro finance.
David O’Toole: The Canadian & American experience of Social Enterprise David O’Toole is CEO of Kyabra Community Association Inc. a community-based organisation that is committed to strengthening individual, family and community life on the south side of Brisbane. David has recently returned from a sabbatical exploring social enterprise development overseas.
Followed by a panel discussion on the learning from overseas and opportunities for application in Brisbane, Australia# A social enterprise is a business with a primary social purpose of creating employment for people marginalised from mainstream employment
* A social firm is a specific social enterprise that creates an integrated workplace for people with a mental illness or disability.
